The miracle icon of Panagia Tsampika is a symbol of faith for not only the people of Rhodes, but also those beyond, in particular for women with fertility difficulties. Located in the Panagia Tsampika nunnery near Archangelos on the east coast of Rhodes, it comprises the old and the new church.
Also known as the nunnery of Panagia of Tsampika ti Psili, it dominates the hilltop from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Panagia Tsampika beach. The church is located lower down, close to the national road. Two of the most remarkable details in the church are the wood carving, which dates back to pre-17th century, and the 19th century icons.
The nunnery owes its name to the word ‘’tsampa’’ which means spark and relates to how the miraculous icons are found.
