After six years of preparation, a uniquely designed space has come to raise the bar in the art world of Fira. AK Asimis Kolaitou Art Centre in Santorini is the most impressive gallery, housed in the most impressive multiplex on the island (and this is no exaggeration).
Just 1km away from the island's capital, on the road to Pyrgos, AK Art Foundation ocupies an area of 6 acres, where there are galleries and spaces for theater, dance or music events. It's included on the list of must sees of every visitor, considering that it really is the ultimate hot-spot in regards to visual presentation, housing the artwork of some of the most important artists who create their masterpieces in Santorini.
The whole operation becomes even more impressive since it exclusively backed by artists. Christoforos Asimis has been internationally declared as the painter of Santorini's landscape and Eleni Kolaitou is one of the most important modern sculptors in Greece. Also, the son of the family, Katonas Asimis has studied Fine Arts and Architecture in London in Bath, England, who participates in international art exhibitions including the Venice and Thessaloniki Biennale. His painting deals with the human figure and the rhythm of the landscape of Santorini. His works are in private and public collections in Greece and abroad.
