Melitinia, one of Santorini's traditional sweets, in the old days were made on Easter week.

Their appearance is very similar to the Cretan skaltsounia, however melitinia have much thinner dough and lacy edges. The filling contains anthotyro (a type of traditional cheese).

Although the tastiest are made from by the hands of a housewife (if you are not lucky enough to be a local's guest) you can sample them in bakeries and patisseries all over the island!
