Wineries

Santorini is a well known wine tourism destination. Therefore it's no surprise the existence of well organised wineries which enable you to be acquainted at a deeper level with the wine making process, as well as noteworthy restaurants that through their wine lists offer comprehensive proposals to those who want to sample the island's "wine treasures".

Some of the wineries, local or non local producers, we recommend you to visit are:

Santo Wines: This is the largest (in capacity) and most modern winery on the island. With more than 1.000 members, the Union of Thira's Products Cooperations is today the largest producer of wine. Its new winery in Pyrgos welcomes hundreds of visitors each year and heas a shop where you can buy local products (tel. +30 22860 22596).

Venetsanos Vinery: The first industrial winery on the island, whose history begins in 1947, is located in Megalochori and has dreamy views of the Caldera. It has been operating since 2015, renovated by the heirs of Giorgos Venetsanos, Anastasios-Nikolaos Zorzos and his brother Evangelos Zorzos, who in collaboration with the oenologist Ioanna Vamvakouri founded the company Venetsanos Winery and run it the way you will see. The tour here starts with a tour of the facilities of the Winery to introduce you to its microcosm. The experienced staff will guide you to the areas “traveling” you into the past, while with their enthusiasm they will spread the love and pride for the winery. When your tour is completed, wine tasting follows. (+30 22860 21100)

Sigalas Estate: This winery has known a significant growth since 1991 and you can visit it in Baxedes. Its wines have won awards in many competitions (tel. +30 22860 71644).

Argyros Estate: One of the most important vineyards in Santorini in an estate founded in 1903 at Episkopi. In a specific location of the vineyard you can see the oldest roots of the assyrtiko variety (tel. +30 22860 31489, Monday-Saturday: 09.00-20.00, Sunday: 10.00-17.00).

Koutsoyannopoulos Winery & Wine Museum: Visit the Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum in Vothonas, the only cave museum in Greece, to learn all there is to know about the wine's stages of production and sample its different flavours and colours. At the end of the tour, you will have the chance to taste four of the best wines of the Koutsoyannopoulos winery, in a specially designed tasting room (tel. +30 22860 31322).

Hatzidakis Winery: With major awards to its credit, the island's smallest winery shows that "size doesn't matter". The winery is not organised, so it is advisable to call before coming to visit (tel. +30 22860 32552).

Vassaltis: The newest winery in Santorini is located in Vourvoulos and is housed in an impressive space that celebrates modern and minimalist visuals. (+30 22860 22211)
