Hatzidakis winery moved to a new venue in Pyrgos and it is one of most unique wineries on the island. For those who don't know the history of this winery, in 1996 Haridimos Hatzidakis replanted a small vineyard, which was abandoned since 1956, because of the great earthquake in Santorini. This vineyard of half hectare, which lies at an altitude of 330 meters, in the village of Pyrgos Kallistis, was cultivated organically with Aidani, an indigenous variety of Santorini.
An existing traditional small cave was transformed, in the summer of 1997, into a winery or “Kanava”, which is the traditional name of wineries of Santorini. The first bottles of the winery’s wine were released in May 1999, with the “Santorini”, harvested in 1998 and the 1997 vintage red “Mavrotragano”.
This was the beginning for Hatzidakis Winery. Winery and vineyards are located within the classified zone of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Santorini in Pyrgos Kallistis. The visitation area spans two vineyards, where you can take part in wine tastings. There is a choice of 4 wines plus tour that costs €7 per person and one of 8 labels plus tour that costs €13 per person.
