One of the most picturesque villages of Sifnos is found in the southwestern part of the island, 10 km from Apollonia. This is Vathi, in every sense of the word, as it is said that the name is due either to the fact that it is located at a much lower point than the other areas or to its deep waters.
Among the 7 villages of Sifnos that have been declared traditional and therefore protected, its bay is one of the most sheltered bays of the island, with the eponymous beach being one of the largest and most beautiful sandy beaches of the island.
Note that you will find many pottery workshops in Vathi, since it used to be the island’s centre for that art during the past, as well as rooms and taverns serving local dishes.
Its most important sights include the church of Taxiarchs dating back to the 16th cent., built on the beach.
