1 day in Thessaloniki for senior travellers
Start your day with a relaxed stroll in Aristotelous Square. Admire the impressive Electra and Olympion landmarks and head down to Nikis Avenue and walk along the Thermaikos waterfront. Stop for coffee at Achillion, which has been one of the city's favorite haunts for more than 50 years. After relaxing, head for the White Tower. If you want to go up to the top bear in mind there are many steps, though the view from the top is worth it.
Once you have enriched your knowledge of the city's history through the museum's exhibition, get aboard Cultural Bus Line (No. 50) for a 1 hour tour around the major historical and cultural sights, such as Agia Sophia, Aristoteous Square, the Old City Hall, Agios Dimitrios, the Governor's House, Ano Poli, Vlatadon Monastery and the Rotunda. After that, head to the Archaeological Museum, located opposite to the XANTH (Young Christians Association of Thessaloniki) building, where you will see its precious exhibits, before you head off to the Diagonios district.
There you can dine at Canteen, an industrial design restaurant famous for its Mediterranean cuisine. Wrap up the day with a glass of wine at the OTE Tower cafe bar, on the site of TIF (Thessaloniki International Fair). The 360-degree view from Ano Poli to Kalamaria is enchanting.
