One of the best places –if not the best– to eat fish in Thessaloniki. Mavri Thalassa with 5 Gourmet awards, invites you on a journey to the Greek sea flavours, more specifically to the North Aegean ones. Alexandros Tokidis (owner) is in charge of the kitchen along with his wife Sonia Margariti, both advocates of simplicity and top-quality ingredients.
Going back to 1926 we find a family taverna that was the talk of Toumba. Nowadays, Mavri Thalassa can be found in Kalamaria, still preserving, however, the same respect for customers, and being one of the best restaurants in the city. The menu honours and supports products from Thessaloniki, but also all Greek products. Fish and seafood come from fishmongers and fishing boats in the wider area, while the distillates also have pure Greek character.
The dishes on the menu are one better than the other and they all stand out. This is something you will definitely notice when you will have to choose one of the tasty treasures. Apart from the famous steamed seafood, you should not leave this place without having tried the popular white fish roe.
The key element in this restaurant is simplicity. There is nothing extravagant but every dish will be unforgettable. This is what a unique culinary experience really is.
