One day excursion to Edessa
Edessa the capital of the Pella prefecture, is located 103 km west of Thessaloniki. Its landmark Waterfalls, a rare and impressive view in a city center, are the largest and most beautiful in the Balkans, and are sure to make you want to come back again and again.
Other sites of interest are the small bridges over the countless channels which cross the city, the picturesque historic center (one of Ancient Greece's most important cities) known as the Varosi district which is lined with buildings of Macedonian architecture, the church of the Virgin Mary's Assumption (Koimisis tis Theotokou) which was built in the 14th century, the Yeni Mosque, Cannavourgion (where cannabis was used to make ropes), the remains of early Christian and Byzantine churches, and the green parks (Alexander the Great and Kioupri being the most notable).
