Panorama is one of the most privileged areas of Thessaloniki due to its location and its natural beauty. Located northeast of the city center at the foot of Mount Hortiartis with a view of the Maiden of the Thermaikos, it sits at an altitude of 250 meters.
In the 18th century it was known as Arsakli or Aksakli and inhabited mainly by Muslims. The new village was founded in 1914 by refugees who came here from Asia Minor. After World War I the area was a resort in Thessaloniki, and later it was suggested the name be changed to Panorama because of its prominent position and amphitheatric view of the city.
With the passage of time, particularly since the mid 1970s onwards, Panorama has grown and become a luxury suburb of Thessaloniki. Today it is a destination for those looking for panoramic views, quality entertainment, good food, and the famous Panorama trigona (traditional dessert).
Among the places worth a visit are Tre Marie (for coffee or food) and Karavomilos (for fish and seafood).
