Thessaloniki International Film Festival (November)
Thessaloniki International Film Festival (November)

Starting out in 1960 as the Greek Cinema Week, in 1992 it turned into an international film festival. This is the oldest one of its kind in the Balkans and the top movie festival in Eastern Europe. Every year, in November (for 2013 between 1-10 November), new and emerging filmmakers from around the globe come to Thessaloniki to participate in this world famous event.

Its base is the Olympion building in Aristotelous Square, with screenings in the building's cinema, four cinemas at the Port and two small cinemas in the Thessaloniki Cinema Museum. It lasts one week, during which time Thessaloniki is filled with cinephiles who give the city, already renowned for its liveliness, an even more vibrant character.
