More pictures have been taken of Navagio than of any other beach on the island and maybe in the whole country. It can be found in the north-western part of the island, at the area of Volimes, 22km from Zakynthos town centre. It was named after an actual shipwreck in 1983 when the cargo ship Panagiotis, smuggling cigarettes, was found onto the beach.
The impressive scenery of Navagio will take your breath away when you look at the rusty ship skeleton, lying on the golden beach, surrounded by tirquaz waters in the Ionian sea, while at the rear part of the bay, the imposing, steep cliffs will amaze you.
If you drive to Agios Georgios monastery at Gremni you can enjoy the majestic view of the beach from above. Go to the steel platform just a few metres away from the monastery, from where you can take panoramic pictures.
