Description

Strofades Monastery

The Strofades monastery is located at the island complex with the same name, south of Zakynthos and is part of the National Sea apark. It was built in the first half f the 13th century by the Emperor of Nikea Theodoros A' Laskaris and is dedicated to the Metamorfosi of Sotiros.

One remarkable detail that differentiates this monastery from the others, at least the orthodox ones, is the fact that the main temple is inside the tower.

Opposite the tower you will see the Agios Georgios chapel, where the relic of Saint Dionisios was placed until 1717 when it was transferred to Zakynthos town, along with the monastery administration.
