Citizens of the European Union (including Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein) traveling to Zakynthos and Greece in general, enjoy the right to free public health care, when they bear a European Health Insurance Card with them. Otherwise, you must pay for any care needed, except for emergency room visits.

Smoking prohibition in public buildings was implemented by law and passed in 2000, followed by tighter restrictions in 2008, which came into effect in on 1 July 2009.

Tipping

A service charge is included in restaurant bills when you dine and bar bills for drinks. However, it is customary to leave a 10% tip on the total of the bill, if you are happy with the overall experience.

Shopping

Generally, the shop's opening hours are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 09.00-15.30 and Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 08.00-14.30 and 17.00-20.30. The stores which are located in areas with a strong commercial presence remain open daily from morning to night. In Zakynthos, stores are open every Sunday.
